Jack
Ma or Ma Yun was born in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China on 15 October 1964.
Jack Ma grew up in a modest population in Hangzhou in the 1980s. During his
life, he had to deal with various of problem. Ma had been rejected in every
school, where he wants to studies. Even as early as elementary school, he had
already been rejected because his mathematics exam that is not so good. But Ma
survived and go through it. However, he excelled in the things that he was
passionate about, for example, teaching himself English. Since the age of 12 to
20 years, he was riding his bike for 40 minutes to the hotel where she could
learn English from the tourists. Actually, Ma had became a teacher after he was
fluent in English. Before becoming a teacher, he had tried for many time to register a job but was turned down.
For example, he signed up to be an employee at KFC, but from 27 people were
applied, only 26 received and he is the only one that is not acceptable. He
also had been rejected by 30 companies and that is what made it change and
become an English teacher because he was fluent in the English language other
than Mandarin. This can be proven that Ma take a failure as an option.
Eight
years of hanging out together with a lot of foreign tourists completely changed
his perspective on his life. Ma felt that he had to think more globally than
most of other Chinese population. Through those tourists, Ma learnt much about
outside world and more importantly he learnt to questions what he thought about
other world. What does the tourists told was very different from all Ma had learned
from his teachers and school books. In 1995, he was visiting United State as a
translator and that was the first time he knew about internet. He realized that
china does not have an internet, so he was thinking about it. After that, Ma
saw an opportunities for having an internet as it can help the development economy
of china in a business at the rest of the world. This also can shows that Ma is
a observant person.
Ma
and his friend started to launch a website known as a “chinapage” to sell the China’s
products through online. Surprisingly, he got an emails for asking him to be a
partner within a day he build up the website. It is really amazing and make Ma
feels so excited. After experienced all of this, Ma believe that connectivity
is a very important to expand their business in his country especially for
global trade. Ma had to collaborate with government because he believes that
government can give a better fund. Unfortunately, the government was control
the activity’s website and it makes many of Ma’s visionary projects was
neglected. Ma also had to work with a government in short period as a Ministry
of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation. However, this has not deterred Ma to
achieve its goals. He started to make a good relationships with influential
people like Jerry Yang, the founder of Yahoo, and it impacts a in Ma’s life.
Jerry Yang was invested in AliBaba about USD 1 billion in 2005. This shows that
networked is a very important traits.
Ma
also is a open risk taker person. He was resigned from the government job in
1999 and make a second movement after failed partnership with government. He
started to make a business venture at internet-based by grouping 18 people at
his home. AliBaba exists from his unfulfilled dream that he cannot achieved
because government intervention. It also had been rejected repeatedly. Since
Jack Ma is a visionary and proactive person, he was not give up easily and
finally he can built his empire and be an influential people in the world.
Nowday, AliBaba was known all around the world as a establish company with
their good services.
